Hi, I'm Raquel, and my pronouns are she/her. I live in Howard Beach, NY, with my wife Antoinette and our little dog Sam.
I didn't always live in Queens; I was born and raised in Washington Heights (Manhattan), the youngest of seven siblings. I went off to boarding school in Marion, Massachusetts, then college in San Fransico, California. In college, I studied Fine Art for a year, got scared that I would never make it as an artist, and moved back to New York.
At Fordham University, I received a Bachelor's in Art History. While at Fordham, I traveled to Italy, Uganda, and Egypt. Ironically, I exhibited my Artwork in each of those countries. And finally, I got my Masters in Leadership and Business Management from CUNY School of Professional Studies.
The most valuable thing I learned in my travels and my studies is that Art has a way of communicating where language fails. I love creating work that makes people feel happy, loved, and appreciated.
Fun fact: My shop is named after my 1937 Singer sewing machine or "la máquina" as my mom calls it in Spanish. She immigrated to the United States in the '70s. She worked in a factory for 33 years as a seamstress to support our family. It was her hard work that inspired my love of sewing, illustration, and Art.
