Drawn Together is a Zoom gathering about slowing down, being present, and noticing what’s happening within us—what’s stirring in our lives, in our bodies, and, of course, in scripture.

When we gather on Zoom, I always remind everyone: you don’t need to be a professional artist to join Drawn Together. I’m not here to teach drawing techniques. Instead, I guide the group through a creative prompt inspired by scripture. In our first gathering, for example, we used colors, simple shapes, and lines to express whatever thoughts came up as we listened to the Gospel being read.

These creative exercises help us lower our guard and open up. Through our conversations, we learn about the gospel story and gain insight into each other’s perspectives. Sometimes, our discussions wander into welcome tangents, offering even more ways to witness the spirit at work.

None of the gatherings are recorded. I thought about this for a while. I’ve seen many creative folks on Patreon record their Zoom gatherings and share them online. As someone with a busy schedule, I really appreciate having access to recordings so I can participate when I have time. But for Drawn Together, I want people to feel comfortable sharing, without worrying that what they say will be on the internet forever. I also want to encourage folks to try this with other people in community.

So I came up with the Drawn Together Recaps. I share a downloadable PDF containing the Gospel, a creative prompt, and the prayer I use so you can recreate the experience with your own community. You can download the recap here:

I’d love for you to join our next Zoom gathering! We meet on the last Thursday of each month. Sign up for free on Patreon to receive the invitation.
