Every September, Malverne turns into this magical little hub of music, food, laughter, and neighbors bumping into each other in Gazebo Park. The Fall Festival is one of those events that makes me stop and think, Wow, I really love where I live.

This year, it’s even more special for me because I’ll be sharing a booth with Grace Lutheran Church and School—a place that has shaped me in more ways than I can count. I truly believe it’s a hidden gem. It’s not just a church; it’s a place that celebrates inclusivity, joy, and the truth that every person is made in God’s image. At Grace, LGBTQIA+ families are warmly welcomed, racial equity and anti-racism are core values, and love is at the center of everything. It’s a place that feels like home—and I want other families to feel that too.

So what will our booth look like? Cozy, welcoming, and a little whimsical (because you know I can’t resist a good bunting banner—even if it means staying up late sewing when I probably should be packing instead). I’ll have printed issues of Doodles of Devotion, some button pins to give away, and even a coloring table for kids so families can pause for a few minutes in the middle of all the festival bustle.

For me, this isn’t about selling a ton of things. I’m only bringing a small handful of products—just enough to give people a taste of what I do. What matters most is meeting our neighbors, sharing some art, and creating a little corner of connection. My hope is that families walk away with not just a doodle or a button, but a sense of the joy and welcome that Grace Lutheran brings to Malverne.

Why Share My Lists?

Since this is Grace’s first time at the Fall Festival, it reminded me just how much goes into preparing for something like this. There are so many little things you need to pull off a booth that feels organized and inviting. I thought sharing my packing list and survival kit might be helpful for anyone else who’s thinking about doing a local festival—because trust me, it’s easy to forget the details when you’re juggling everything else!

My Packing List

Because behind every festival booth is a mountain of stuff you don’t see:

  • Tent

  • Tables & chairs

  • Tablecloth

  • Maquina 37 Banner (Grace’s tablecloth with their name already on it)

  • Handmade bunting (because apparently I like to make life harder for myself, but it’s worth it for the cozy vibes)

  • Card display stand

  • A handful of products (less is more this year)

  • Square reader to take credit card payments

  • Printed issues of Doodles of Devotion

  • Button Machine and Inserts (for kids to color and make their own button pins)

  • Business cards (I made new bookmark-shaped cards)

Festival Day Survival Kit

The little things that keep me sane and smiling:

  • Snacks (a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is my go-to)

  • Water bottle (maybe two or three)

  • Comfy shoes (festival days are long)

  • Portable phone charger and battery(for photos + staying connected)

  • A sweater (because fall weather in New York likes to surprise you this time of year)

It’s a little chaotic, but in the best way. Every detail is a way of saying, Come on in. Stay a while. You’re welcome here.

If you’re around Malverne on Saturday, September 20th, please stop by the Fall Festival! Say hi, grab a doodle, let your kids color, or just take a moment to rest with us. I’d love to meet you, and I think you’ll love discovering the warmth of Grace Lutheran, too.
